85°C Bakery Cafe

85°C Bakery Cafe

85°C first caught my eye when i saw someone carrying this bakery’s box in SJC airport. something about picking a food as gift to friends/family from another state gives me the impression that food from this bakery must be good. after doing further

Opa!

Opa!

after a short stroll at willow glen downtown, i decided to try out this place for dinner. i usually order the saganaki/flaming cheese for starter but skipped that and ordered an entree right away. i got their paidakia/lamb chops which comes with two sides from their list of signature sides. i chose wild rice pilaf and grilled asparagus. the lamb chops were juicy and tasty but the rice pilaf was little oily. the grilled asparagus was perfect though for the lamp chops. opa!’s menu offers a lot of options. they have good wines too. most of the guests there were pairing their dinner with a glass of wine. i like the ambiance of this place. it’s cozy and small so it can get crowded during weekend nights.

Cafe Artemis

Cafe Artemis

my teammates and i headed off for lunch to this nice mediterranean restaurant at pruneyard shopping center that’s very close to my office. i’ve been here before and i enjoyed its food so i was looking forward to going back. we tried their “mediterranean meze sampler” which comes with tzatziki, melitzanosalata, falafel, dolma, hummus, tabouli, babaganush and pita. the portion for two was already a lot for us three but it was delicious! i ordered the lamb souvlaki that is marinated lamb with grilled vegetables, white rice and rice pilaf. the lamb was tender, juicy and tasty. i liked the seasoned white rice but wasn’t too fond of the rice pilaf. all of us had a great time. the food was served promptly and its taste was great. the service was good and ambiance was nice.

Everything Yummy [food+love]

Everything Yummy [food+love]

One drizzling evening, my siblings and I decided head back to David’s steakhouse for our dinner, but much to our dismay we found it locked down permanently. After several disappointed moments and careful recalculation of plans, we then decided to scour the uncharted corners of

Manila Foodshoppe

Manila Foodshoppe

We visited Manila Foodshoppe’s latest branch after months of being in operation at the third floor of SM City Cebu. We arrived there just minutes before the throng of people flocked the place for dinner. We started with a huge bowl hot and sour fish lips to share and a pot of tea for refreshments. Without waiting too long, the other orders arrived; lechon kawali, seafood fried rice, buttered chicken, spring rolls, bam-i, squid with salt and pepper, and last but not the least, honey pork spare ribs.
Looking at the prices of the food, I was expecting that the serving size would be small as it is in other restaurants. Much to my surprise, several of the food we ordered were good for at least 5-6 people! We couldn’t even finish the rice and the bam-i (local noodle dish with vegetables and meat.)
The hot sour soup tastes great, just the right sourness with a slight zing with beaten eggs to give it a neat texture. The honey pork spare ribs, spring rolls, and lechon kawali dishes tasted good, but they had very little servings to boot. Butter chicken tasted great, in my opinion. They were able to get the familiar original recipe accentuated by just the right amount of spice in them. The squid with salt and pepper tasted a little bit salty for my tastes.

A: The food tasted great. Definitely one of the next places to visit if you’re feeding an army. Cheap, affordable, and delicious.

Ulli’s

Ulli’s

We met up with my sister’s college friend here in Ayala past 11 in the morning and decided to try eating at Ullis. We were lucky enough to get seated and order before a large group of office employees came to claim their reservation. Anyhow, our group ordered a Tori Tori platter, a dish composed of three sticks of chicken, squid, pork bacon, and shrimp; Chops, composed of four slices of pork on top of a heap of steamed rice with fermented cabbage; and Combi Pork Platter, made up of Char Siu Pork (Chinese BBQ pork that looks like pork ham with sweet glaze) and Siu Yuk Pork (Crispy Roasted Pork Belly)

I was kind of disappointed at the food here. Sure the service was fast and we didn’t have to wait for 30 minutes to get served, but the food that arrived on our table was cold. The Combi Pork platter didn’t look heated at all, and to make it worse, the meat was really hard and chewy.

The Tori Tori platter is another disappointment for me, because the meat served on the plate looked miniscule and sickly, and wouldn’t even appease the hungry patron. Plus they didn’t serve this hot.

The only plus side of this restaurant for me would be the Chops, which thankfully arrived hot, the service tea, and the strong wifi signal from the Ayala Mall itself.

I’m not sure if I’ll be coming back to this restaurant. It’s expensive, feels gimmicky, and doesn’t serve anything exceptional.
